Melanie Canatella is an award winning, published professional photographer. She has been photographing for over four years. She has worked in all fields of photography, now specializes in underwater portraiture. She started as an amateur photographer when she was thirteen years old with her mom’s point-and-shoot camera. Instantly, she fell in love with photography and wanted to continue with it. Lacking in discipline and a professional work-flow, she decided to further her education and get a degree for photography. Melanie has an associate’s degree in fine art photography.
Melanie’s work has been showcased in gallery spaces around the Harford County, Maryland region. She had a solo exhibition at Harford Community Colleges SAGA (Student Art Gallery Association) gallery space. She featured forty-two of her top photographs. Her work was chosen in a juried exhibition at Harford Community college’s annual Student Art and Design Exhibition two years in a row. 2017's juror was Guenet Abraham, a local graphic designer. Melanie had three photographs featured in this exhibition that got special recognition from Abraham herself. 2018 juror was Margret Winslow, a Delaware artist. Melanie's Photograph won the "Purchase Award," which is permanently on display in Joppa Hall on Harford Community College's campus.
Melanie has also been published in Stubborn Magazine twice. She got both front and back covers of their Aquatic Issue, as well as two full page spreads in the magazine, as well as their Halloween Issue over page and spreads inside. She continues to submit work to magazines in hopes of more publications.
